Geocache Description:

A safe, serene walk down long-gone railroad tracks for a glimpse of transportation history.

NB...A fabulous, waterproof new container has been preparedfor this popular cache, along with my apologies for lettingit get damp. I hope the Ziplocs I used are still working. Thanks to everyone who took the time to find this one.TimelyYears ago, locomotives required a little help to gain purchase on slippery tracks. The preferred means of improving traction was to sprinkle sand on the rails. Much of this sand came from areas like this in Southern New Jersey. You'll see two large, abandoned sand loaders in an area now frequented mostly by local animals and ATV enthusiasts. Keep your eyes and ears open for the latter, they are far more dangerous. Not too far off the beaten path, there are two ways to reach this one, and both work equally well. Have fun.
