Geocache Description:

This multi-cache can be done as a 1.5 mile walk or most can be done in your car. It can be completed in less than an hour or you can pack a lunch and take in the local history at a slower pace- after all it's 1862.

1) First go to N 38 17.734 and W 078 48.659
Look around the property to find the gravestone of Catherine Susan and record her date of death in the form of MM/DD/YYYY.

2) Now enter the coordinates N 38 17.DG9 and
W 078 48.GF3
At this location determine when the last "gundalow" set out from Port Republic. Enter the year.

3) Now enter the coordinates N 38 17.JBL and
W 078 48.MHB From this spot enjoy the view. During the battle of Port Republic Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson narrowly escaped with his life from this point. He mistook Union gunners as Confederate soldiers with a captured cannon and ordered the Union soldiers to bring the gun into position. He realized his mistake when they trained the cannon on him and fired!

4) Now set your coordinates to N 38 17.M4G and
W 078 49.CE9
Read the historical marker at this spot. Find the date when Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson had his "quiet Sabbath" interrupted. Record the date in the form DD/MM/YYYY. Don’t forget the zeros.

W 078 48.944
Better duck down to Water Street to avoid a skirmish on Main Street.

Determine when this cemetery was established. Record the year as WXYZ.
