CoolCache's very first hide and still truckin'
along
If you like Matchbox cars, cool toy collectibles, and collectible
metal planes then this "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" cache is
for you!
Kind of a wacky hide located in a heavily wooded area about 17.5
miles southeast of Bangor, Maine. From Bangor, travel southbound on
Highway 15 paralleling the Penobscot River passing through the town
of Bucksport. Hwy 1 will eventually turn eastward. Stay on it as it
passes near Alamoosook Lake and branches to the left (as you travel
on it eastbound). Look for a small gravel road turn off on the left
a few miles down the road (look in hints for Lat/Long of this turn
off). To the best of my knowledge this gravel area is public land
and you can park your car there or on the side of the road closeby.
Careful of the gravel on top: it's deep and you could get
stuck.
Several intrepid cachers have found several other great ways to
get to the cache as well... see below!
However you get there, this cache will get you out into a
beautiful wooded area just north of Toddy Pond and North Penobscot.
You'll discover why I placed the cache here when you get to it and
read the log.
The cache was designed with your accompanying kids in mind
(short 1/2 mile hike). But the hike is no picnic; the woods are
moderately thick with no trails and there are some thorny bushes
that you will have to trek through. Some bushwacking is necessary
and bring your "bug juice," a head net, good long pants, water, and
an adventurous attitude. Be patient, trust your GPS, and you'll
find it!
I will reward your effort in getting to this cache with NEW,
in-package, quality (but small) in-theme toys. Please plan on
bringing the same for your trades to keep the quality of this cache
HIGH. Please no used toys unless they are special, in excellent
condition, and collectible! Happy hunting and good luck!
Arrival note: Be advised, my driving instructions reflect only
an arrival from the West. Alternately you might be able to use
"Happy Town Rd" south of Winkumpaugh Corners to get there but I
have not explored the routing or parking from this area.
PS Be safe: during any hunting season please wear lots of
flourescent colors.
