Geocache Description:

Redwood City is the county seat for San Mateo County. The city was named because of all of the Redwood trees and lumber that was shipped through here from the hills to the West. This is also where the only train tracks cross the San Francisco bay to the East Bay start. There are plans to revive the line as the bridge still exists. You can see it to the South of the Dumbarton Bridge.

If you are here on Saturday morning, walk from the Cache to the train station and look to the right you will see the Redwood City Farmers Market. Bring a bag and buy some tasty goodies.

While at the station walk to the Northwest about 400 feet to Broadway to see the arch that says "Redwood City, Climate best by government test" (cache GCH4MX, RWC History 101: Climate Best by Government Test). The arch originally went over El Camino Real at the Redwood City / San Carlos border. It was there until someone pointed out that it violated a city ordinance that prohibits signs that advertise something other that what is on the premises (i. e. billboards). It was then moved to city property. There is another arch at the other end of Broadway (GCK7Y7, Government Test).

To the West across El Camino Real is Sequoia High School and to the South is the Sequoia Station shopping center.

This cache is also part of the CalTrain - Weekend Trains (GCJQMD) Multi-Cache.
