Saxon Falls Hydro is located on the Montreal River where the river falls and enters into a deep picturesque canyon. The opposite ends of the Saxon Falls dam are in different states—Michigan and Wisconsin. The power plant, however, is situated on the Michigan side of the river. Saxon Falls Hydro is a run-of-the- river surge tank operation. The dam at Saxon Falls was originally built in 1913 and reconstructed in 1940. The power plant, located about 1800 feet from the dam at a point where there is a total drop of about 100 feet, is reached by stairs. A pipeline 1300 feet long extends from the head gate in the dam to a surge tank located near the power plant. Source: https://www.xcelenergy.com/Energy_Portfolio/Electricity
