On the way back explore the remains of Akay House. The estate goes back to the middle ages and the first house was built on the site in the early 19th C.It was extended around 1900 to 5 reception rooms, 8 bedrooms and 5 servants bedchambers etc. However in 1938 the estate came up for sale and to prevent Council Houses being built on the cricket field Sedbergh School bought the estate and promptly demolished the house. All that remains are the foundations and the sadly neglected kitchen garden overlooking the river. a full history is available from Sedbergh Library.
