This cache is part of the Lewis & Clark Trail Series. It is located in a small revine overlooking Lake Sakakawea. The trail to the cache provides a great view of the lake and the rugged buttes of the North Dakota Badlands to the south. The cache was created in cooperation with the Lewis & Clark State Park.
The park is named for the Corps of Discovery explorers who camped nearby on April 17, 1805. An interpretive trail marker has been placed within the park to commemorate their historic journey through North Dakota.
Lewis & Clark State Park is located about 19 miles southeast of Williston. For additional information see the park’s website: www.ndparks.com/parks/LCSP.htm
The cache is about a half mile from the trailhead, which begins at the Lewis & Clark Kiosk N 48 07.436 W 103 13.890. If you want a shorter hike, park in one of the picnic areas.
The cache is in an ammo can and contains a copy of the Journals of Lewis & Clark with passages marked referring to this area as Lewis & Clark saw it during 1805. Please do not remove the copy of the Journals of Lewis & Clark.
Be sure to check out other caches in the Lewis & Clark Trail Series: Caches are located at Fort Lincoln State Park, Fort Mandan, Cross Ranch State Park, Cross Ranch Nature Preserve, Fort Stevenson State Park, and Lewis & Clark State Park.
