Geocache Description:

Easy parking and hike. Little known Natural Area which is owned by NC State Parks.

Since this is on NC State Park property a real cache is not allowed unless you want to pay to register it. This is such a beautiful area that I thought other cachers may want to experience this area of special historical and natural significance. The trails are scarce and there is a lot of poison ivy. The best place to park is at N35.54.846 W078.23.250. If you have small children you may want to keep a close eye on them due to steep inclines and slippery areas, which are easily avoidable. I did some research on history of the area when I worked for NC Parks and read about reports that people were driving their Model T's out on the ice to gather ice blocks, which were stored in the icehouse. If you don't beleive in global warming, try walking on the ice during the winter, let alone driving on it. I don't suggest it. If we get any ice in NC, it's normally not safe to walk on. (Those statements are my personal views and not a proven fact according to many scientist our the government)
