9 to 5 Pen Exchange Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Huntnlady: Cache is now archived. It was in a very large pipe in Albertson's parking lot. The cap came off, it was about 12" in diameter. I placed a post down inside of it to make the platform that the cache sat upon. Unfortunately, the cap broke in half eventually, and the cache was discovered and taken. It was a good hide while it lasted.

Geocache Description:

These are not the cache coordinates.
The listed coordinates take you to within walking distance of the cache.

Do you ever wonder why you can never find a pen when you really need one? It's as if they just disappear on their own!

Have you ever been stricken with guilt when you have opened up your checkbook, or checked your pocket, only to find that pen that you borrowed to make your last purchase or to scrawl a quick note?

These occurrences are now known to have a deeper meaning....

Scientists have just recently discovered that borrowed pens are capable of exercising a mild form of temporary mind control!

DON'T PANIC!  There are three things you can do:

#1 Set your borrowed pens free to live out their lives among members of their own kind; absolving yourself of your perceived sin, you can leave with a clear conscience; smug in the knowledge that you have acted in the pen's best interests.

#2 Conduct a ballpoint prisoner exchange. (A certain amount of pen laundering is expected and even encouraged.)

#3 Find that pesky pen that has escaped your clutches and drag it back, clicking and scritching, to a life of servitude. (A word to the wise if you choose this option: Get a pocket protector!)

(The pen exchange idea was from Snoogans, used with permission.)

I encourage you to do option #2 by visiting this cache, but first you'll have to use your pen to solve the 9 to 5 puzzle:

The ten clues below lead to words which will be entered into the diagram.

  • Nine of the words will be 5 letters long and will be entered into the diagram vertically
  • One word will be 9 letters long and will be entered horizontally on the shaded row

The order of the clues has nothing to do with the order of the answers. You have to figure out which word goes where. For this puzzle, all the 5-letter words will be made up of letters from the 9 letter word.

Clues:   divert   genius   less    nanny   noodles   sandwich   skinflint    slander   sword   wrecks

Next, write out the 9 letter word and write out the numbers 0-8 underneath.   Finally, plug them in to the coordinates and go find the cache.  Its that simple!

Cache Coordinates are as follows:
Latitude: 38.MSIAUI  Longitude: -122.MSMAUI

It sounds like someplace in Hawaii, right? No, actually the coordinates are in degree decimal notation. To translate them back to minute decimal, plug them in at JeEeP.com The answer you are looking for when you submit the degree decimal numbers is in MinDec, and you will round them off. These are the ones you plug into your GPSr.

Please be sure to re-hide the cache exactly as found. Congratulations to FTFinders PumpkinTreasures who won a Starbucks gift certificate.
