Geocache Description:

A pretty easy cache in an ecologically unique area

This cache is hidden in Finzel Swamp, an area owned by The Nature Conservency. Check the link below for information. Here are directions to the preserve. Past Frostburg, take Routh 546 North 1.7 miles towards the Town of Finzel. Turn right onto a dirt road on the norrth side of the recreation park and baseball field. After the ballpark, where four driveways converge, take the second one from the left. Follow this road for .6 mile to the preserve sign and gate. A couple of notes: pants are suggested because of high grass and some posion ivy. Also, the road to the preserve can be quite muddy and narrow. It may be best to park your car and walk in rather than drive in to the gate. The cache is a green ammo can with screwdrivers, a clamp, a flashlight, a strap wrench, a carpenter's pencil, a tape measure key chain, a utility knife, and several bungee cords in it. good luck!

If you are feeling adventurous, check out the old cemetary located at N 39 41.817, W 78 56.358. The gap in the mountain you see from the pond is called Wolfe gap. The Wolfes are burried in the cemetary. See photo!

Update on June 28, 2005. It is now impossible to drive all the way to the preserve. The nature conservancy has turned the old road which accessed the area into a trail. This was badly needed as the road was blocking the southward flow of water through the swamp and was damaging swamp vegetation. It's only about a 1/4 mile longer walk now, and it's really pretty. The trail may be wet in high water.
