Most likely only available only in the summer and fall, this is a single point cache that takes geocacher through a scenic lava flow. Total round trip distance is approximately 1 mile. The cache is located just off the main trail.
By land or by sea? That's your choice! With the great views to the high cascades, either choice is spectacular! The "land" route will take you on a beautiful short loop hike along the shores of Sparks Lake and through lava flows forested with lodgepole pines. This trail is named for Oregon’s long-time photographer laureate, Ray Atkeson, and is located in one of his favorite places. The "sea" route will take into unknown coves and challenge your ability to find a suitable landing spot amongst the lava strewn shoreline. A Northwest Forest Pass is required for parking.
