This is a temporary NOTE to all Geocachers wanting to visit the Grotto and the Park this LABOUR DAY WEEKEND! This excerpt was taken from the CTV News website:

"Cyprus Lake Campground at Bruce Peninsula National Park is now closed until Monday, Sept. 7, according to Parks Canada. The closure was put in place due to increased bear activity in the area. Parks Canada said bear activity will be reassessed to determine whether the campground can safely reopen or if the closure needs to be extended. While overnight camping has been affected, day-use areas remain open. Grotto parking has been cancelled Thursday. Officials said campers and the public will be updated once it is considered safe to reopen. 🐻🐻🐻

 

Our very popular virtual "cache" can be quite the Buttdragger! Sturdy boots to support ankles and stamina is in order for this one. It is not a trail for the very young or the rather old! Take Hwy 6 and head toward Tobermory. 5 miles before getting into the town, you will see a sign on the right indicating the Cyprus Lake Campgrounds. The day-use fee to visit the Cyprus Lake and Grotto area at Bruce Peninsula National Park is $17.50 per vehicle for a standard 4-hour parking slot, plus an online reservation fee of $11.50. Turn in and follow the long approach lane to the Parks Canada office and pick up a Cyprus Lake Hiking Trails Map. This is very important. Without it, finding this virtual cache location might be a little difficult. Carry on, and park at the furthermost parking lot at Head of Trails parking. Take the Horse Lake Trail and from there you're on your own! It is recommended that this not be attempted late afternoon to dusk during the late Fall and Winter months, nor in the deep snow or in icy conditions.

If you don't have one - then do not post a "find". Simple! It's so unfair to all the other great folk who took the time to do just that. How else can you prove you have actually been to the site? A cell phone or a digital camera is an easy thing to take with you on any hike and is a prerequisite for any virtual to record you were actually there! So.....ANY POSTS WITHOUT A PICTURE AFTER 3 MONTHS WILL NOW BE TAKEN DOWN.
