Mendenhall Coin Xchange Multi-Cache
davidaknz: This cache had a good 13-year run. As noted earlier, this area is blocked off when many cruise-ship cachers come to town in the summer, that leaves it unfound for months at a time. The point of this cache, as the name implies, is to trade coins and tokens from around the world. It is a multi-stage cache with the first stage cache being the hardest to find. No bushwacking is required but might be considered an unusual hiding spot. It is on an established trail system and is very kid friendly.
The first cache is smaller than a 35mm film canister. It will give you the location of the final prize in which I have placed a number of US and foreign seed coins/tokens to get it started. Please feel free to exchange some of yours for them. If you don't have anything to trade please just log your visit. But if there is something there that just tugs at your heart, feel free to help yourself. I will check the cache from time to time and add more or remove some if the cache is too full. Once you have found the cache carefully replace it and then explore the trails in the area. I have seen beaver in the area and hear that there have been bear sightings in the past few weeks. Speaking of bears, this is a bear area and it is posted as such. Always use caution in this area. The trails are often closed in July and August when salmon are spawning in the nearby creek. Bears fancy a meal of salmon. Enjoy the cache and the area.
