This cache is in a wetlands area with numerous raised boardwalks and viewing platforms. It is a very easy walk and is a nice kid friendly cache. There is a lot of tree canopy so the GPS reception is a bit spotty but good at the cache site.
The original CO of this cache, Rick Abbot, aka AKVoyager, passed away in June 2014. I have the privilege of adopting this cache and will continue to maintain it in his name. Though I never met AKVoyager, he was the owner of many of the first caches I found around Juneau and consider him sort of a "virtual" mentor in this game.
The boardwalk was replaced within the past year and ties in to the new Under-Thunder Trail. It's a great place for bird-watching, hiking and bike riding. Beware tho, it's also bear country!
AKvoyager's words about the cache: "This a very interesting area as the trails here are actually wooden boadwalks over what is called Jordan Creek. The area is so flat that the creek is really spread out. It was recently created to be wheelchair accessable and an educational experience for local childern. What is going to make this cache a bit tricky to find is the number of broadwalks that branch off the one on which you enter the area. They are so close together that you might end up having to explore a number before finding the right location that holds the cache.
Once you get to the above coordinates use your cacher sense to determine the best spot for the cache and look there." It's a small black bison so there is no room for swag and BYOP! Cheers!
