Sage Hen Nature Trail Traditional Cache
Carlsam: I checked on the cache while camping at Sage Hen this weekend and it is gone. Bummer. Maybe next year when I come back I can place a new cache in this same area.

This cache is on a short looped hiking "Nature Trail" at Sage Hen reservoir. The trailhead is along the main road around the reservoir a little ways away from the entrance to Sage Hen Creek campground; parking coordinates are N44 20.129 W116 10.387.
If you start on the right loop of the trail (as you look at trailhead) the cache is about 0.1 mile walk in. The challenge on this one will being able to lock onto enough satellites for accuracy due to the heavy timber and mountains. There were times I lost reception and most of the time I could only get from one to three satellites. So there are no guarantees as to the accuracy of the coordinates but they will get you in the general location. For this reason here is a clue to help you know that you are looking in the right location. It is: The trail has two footbridges across Sage Hen creek - the cache is hidden within 25 feet of the south end of the furthest upstream footbridge. Be smart - you do NOT have to endanger your life to find this.
The cache is a green ammo box. I have filled it with an assortment of items that may be of need during a camping/fishing trip at Sage Hen. Initial contents include: mini flashlight, mini leatherman tool, matches, fishhooks, bobber, weights, kids compass, deck of cards, small phillips screwdriver, 2 tent stakes, a bungee tie down cord, package of nails and screws, the HamuNeko Travel Bug, and a host of other related items.
This is a GREAT walk to take the kids on. You'll see really cool drops and waterfalls on Sage Hen Creek, be able to climb on some BIG rocks, see big trees, walk along varied terrain, etc. The entire loop can't be over 3/4 mile long max. Sage Hen reservoir is a great place to camp, fish, and canoe. There are also other great hiking trails along three sides of the reservoir. We've come up here for years and always have a great time.
Have fun!
