Geocache Description:

Located at Kaimu Beach, near Kalapana. The walk to the cache is over bare rock lava which is cracked in places.
You will need:
1) Water to drink
2) Wear good shoes
3) Sunscreen

While the hike is not very long, it is over open area of black lava and it gets hot on the black landscape. Some people may wish to do this one earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon before the suns goes down. It is not recommended at night, but if you do go hunting at night...bring a good flashlight with full batteries!

Located near where the original Kaimu blacksand beach used to be before Kilauea had different plans. Now a new black sand beach is forming and palm trees are already growing, thanks to people who have planted them. Enjoy your walk over the the lava and take a stroll down the beach. Bring water, sunscreen and shoes. If it's clear, you get a good view of Pu‘u O‘o from here. Swimming, on the other hand, is not so good here; you would be advised to stay out of the water due to nasty currents that can come up. This is also a great place to watch the sunset! Enjoy.
