Geocache Description:

Texas Geocaching Association
Take a stroll down the abandoned Baccus Lane before it is lost to development. Grass and weeds have started to cover the defunct road near the historic cemetery of the same name. Located near the intersection of the Dallas North Tollway and Legacy Drive, Baccus Cemetery (a.k.a. Cook Cemetery) is still in use today for family members of some of the original settlers of Peter's Colony. It's a Texas State Historic Landmark and has the oldest marked gravesite in Plano. For more detailed history on this cemetery, click here.
The Dallas Ghost Hunter's Society claims this cemetery may be haunted. Please post any mysterious photographs you take at this site.

The cache is hidden on the lane. The cemetery (N33°04.746' W096°49.296') is near the west end of the lane. If you park near the cemetery on the side of Bishop Road and walk (or bike) east along Baccus Lane to the cache, it's almost two miles round trip. However, if you have a vehicle with a bit of clearance and if you know how to drive over a curb (slowly at an angle, one tire at a time), you can drive down the lane to within ten feet of the cache from Parkwood Boulevard.

Texas Historical Marker:
Henry Cook (1775-1862) a veteran of the war of 1812, settled here in 1845 as a member of the Peters Colony. His log house located nearby, was a landmark on the Shawnee Trail. He first used this property as a family cemetery in 1847 for the burial of his son, Daniel (b. 1831). His daughter, Rachel Cook Baccus deeded the burial ground to his heirs in 1878. She later donated adjoining land for construction of the Baccus Christian Church Sanctuary. This cemetery named in her honor about 1915 is still in use. The church was disbanded in the 1930's.
