Geocache Description:

Find a cache and three counties all at once!

OK, you may ask: why 'MoDaSa'? (say: moh-DAY-suh) This geocache takes it's name from Morgan, Davis and Salt Lake Counties. The peak this cache is hidden on is where these three county boundaries converge. Technically, I think the cache lies in Morgan County, but its a close call; it may be Davis. It is placed a little below the actual peak where the convergence occurs. Unless a survey crew hikes up to verify it either way, we'll assume this is a Morgan County cache. Thus, "Mo' gets first billing.

Like the Grandview 2002 cache, MoDaSa can be approached from several starting points. Perhaps the best begins at the end of the Sessions Mountain road, which runs south of the Morgan Valley Overlook area at the top of Skyline Drive, which begins in Bountiful near the 'B'. Drive up Skyline to the overlook. Signs will point you south, where you will follow the Sessions Mountain dirt road to the Great Western Trailhead. You must bring a 4-wheel drive vehicle with good clearance to negotiate the last half of this rocky road. The Great Western trailhead is at the end of vehicle travel.

Park at these coordinates: N40-52.880, W111-45.753, which is the head of Holbrooke Canyon to the west. You start by hiking downhill, but then the trail switchbacks back up toward the head of Millcreek Canyon. The trail takes some ups and downs, but you maintain a fairly steady elevation along much of the route. This cache is a little over halfway to Grandview Peak, so you may want to plan a day trip to find several caches along the way: "How do you like your eggs...", "MoDaSa", "Snag Rock", and finally "Grandview 2002". The trail is in good condition and the scenery is tremendous. You will visit some country not many people see up close. Sheep, yes. People, no.

The cache is an ammo box hidden near the ridgeline at 9,085'. To the east and northeast is Morgan County and the Hardscrabble/Shingle Mill Creek area. Upper City Creek Canyon in Salt Lake County is to the southeast. To the southwest and west is upper Millcreek Canyon in Davis County. Grandview is the tallest peak about a mile to the south/southwest.

Bring plenty to drink, some food and good footwear. Don't forget to bring a hat, sunscreen and shades. Enjoy the hike and we'll cache-u-later...
