Geocache Description:

Sequoia National Park, 300 ft net elevation change, off trail, snowshoes required in winter

Park in the Wuksachi Lodge (visit link) N36 36.583 W118 45.179 (7033 ft altitude) in Sequoia National Park.

They have good lunch at the lodge (including veg meals). Eat well and make sure you have lots of energy. The hike is about two hours each way to get to "Saddle Rock" (I named this rock, you won't see this name used elsewhere). From the parking lot, stay west of the Clover River and navigate to the coordinates for this geocache.

I did this in winter (February) when you need showshoes, which earns it a 3.5 terrain rating. It is probably easier in Summer. There is no trail. I checked with the locals at the lodge and they said there are no restrictions on where you can hike -- provided you know your way back (I assume you'll have your GPS on hand, so no worries).

This is a BEAUTIFUL hike. Since it is a national park, no physical geocache is available. Instead, your objective is to find the so named "Saddle Rock", which looks like a big giant saddle made of rock. It is a highly permanent structure maintained by Mother Nature. It is clearly visible when you get there. See the picture on this posting to see what you are looking for. When you get there, take a picture in front of it and post it with your log.
