Attention Cachers: The old
Four Craters was plundered twice now, so here we go again. This cache was a multi at one point, but now is back to a regular cache.
This cache is in an interesting
spot, not too many people have been
to this little area, and it offers a really unique view of this side of O'ahu
without the hassle of a long drive.
If you are in Waikiki and feel adventurous, this is an easy 3 mile round trip
hike from Kapi'olani Park. If you have a Ka'a, you can park within 100 yards of
the cache.
To
find the cache, you should look for a circular grass
covered place about 4 feet across that would
be perfect for a deer to bed down for the night. If you lay down there too, you
shall find what you seek!
Make
sure that if you go on a clear day that you look to the east. If the humidity is
low, to the right of Koko Head, you can see Molokai, Lanai and even Maui off in
the distance!
There are four craters within
a relatively small area of Oahu. If you were to draw a line between Koko Crater
and Punchbowl Crater, and then another line between Ka'au Crater and Diamond
Head Crater, this little spot would be very close to where the lines intersect.
When you get there, you may wonder if this was the beginning of something
volcanic that never quite grew up.
On a clear day, you can easily
see three of the four craters that are mentioned above (along with a glimpse of
the fourth). There are caches located in or very close to all four of these
craters.
Although it may be easy to claim this cache,
do you have what it takes to do all four crater caches? If you have done Four
Craters, Koko
Crater, Ka'au Crater Boys and
Girls, Puowaina Challenge AND
Diamond Quest, then give yourself a pat on the back and post your accomplishment
here!Hide the cache
well, it should be easy to cover up! Mahalo!!!!
27Jools has contacted me and says that this is the site of the old Kaimuki Observatory!
A liitle research also turned
up this little tidbit about the park, it is actually called Puu
o Kaimuki, and it seems it is a volcano!
