This is our first cache, and it is located in Manor Farm Country
Park, close to Junction 8 of the M27.
You have to pay for parking within the Country Park during the
day (£1.50), but after about 4:30pm it appears to become free (at
least, there is no-one collecting at the entrance!). Suggested
parking is at 50 54.216N 01 16.574W which is close to the working
Farm. This costs extra to go into (£4.60 for adults, £3.10 for
children), but is well worth a visit, especially if you have
younger children. Another plus point is that the £1.50 parking
charge is refunded if you visit the Farm! Even if you decide to
miss the Farm, there are still other things in the area, such as a
tea room, and an old chapel that are accessible. The cache is about
1.5km from the car park along the "Strawberry Trail". This includes
some wonderful views of the River Hamble on the way.
The Country Park is open during daylight hours (until about 9pm
during the summer months) and there is always loads going on, click
here
for more details.
While you are in the area, 1gowild has set up a series of caches
called Hamble Ramble further downstream:
Hamble Ramble - Lower Swanwick to Warsash
- Lower Swanwick (GC17VMF)
- Horse (GC17VN0)
- Which way now? (GC17VMR)
- Gorse (GC17VMY)
Why not make a day of it and get them all!
Note from esscafe (Thanks!): If you come the back way through
Botley there is free parking for about 12 cars at N50 54.300 W001
16.553; this only adds a couple of hundred feet to the trip.
