Geocache Description:

Dual Waypoint Geocache incorporating the Guerin Ferry Historical sign and nearby private lot. Most difficult part of finding this cache will be dealing with the pathways into the underbrush that have been provided, as they are not straight and won't be conducive to using a GPS "highway" to walk right up to the cache. All flat ground at 150 feet of elevation.

This is a DUAL WAYPOINT Geocache near Newberg, Oregon.

Newberg, Oregon was the boyhood home of President Herbert Hoover. He lived with the Minthorn Family during his formative years and attended what is now called George Fox University, although back at that time it was called Pacific Academy. During the summers, he would work in the fields across the Willamette River, riding across the river on the Guerin Ferry. Although nothing is left of the Ferry itself, the site of the ferry is commemorated by a sign near the end of a rural county road in Yamhill County. The above coordinates (N 45 16.298 W 122 57.055) will take you to this sign, where you can learn a bit about the ferry. After you've learned what you came to learn, put the information to use as follows...

xxx = 401 plus the number of years the ferry operated during.
yyy = twice the daily wage in pennies that Herbert Hoover made back then.

The coordinates for the actual Geocache are...
N 45 16.xxx W 122 57.yyy.

Example - if the ferry operated between 1901 and 1903 and Hoover made $1.75 a day, xxx = 401 + 3 (not 2 but 3 - 1901, 1902, 1903) = 404, and yyy = 2 x 175 = 350,
for coordinates of N 45 16.404 W 122 57.350.

The actual Geocache is located on private property in a thickly wooded front part of a nearby lot. Please use the gate, to save wear and tear on the fence. There are several trails mowed through the heavy underbrush, but none of them are very straight, so plan on using both GPS and compass to find this cache, as you won't be walking to it in a straight line.

The Cache is a white Rubbermaid container found chest high in a Grand Fir Christmas Tree. Please take a moment to sign the log.
