Relax to the Max Traditional Cache

Often overlooked, Canal Flats offers many recreational opportunities.
This cache overlooks the Columbia Lake. Named after the world famous Cranbrookian (sp) cat known as Max. Max hated to travel but loved to relax . . . he thought that this would be a great location for a Geocache because of the many recreational (some more relaxing than others) opportunities in and around Canal Flats.
The cache area is an enhancement area for Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep. Drive carefully in case you meet a herd of them as we did.
From highway 93/95, watch for the Canal Flats exits and then follow the signage for the Canal Flats Provincial Park. Rather than turning left into the park, keep going and stay right until you get to a dead end and a turn around. Park in this little cul-de-sac area. At the end of the road, there is a fence with the address 8211. From this spot, head up the hill, allowing your GPS to guide you to the cache area.
While the upward climb is relatively short, it is never the less steep and overgrown. We suggest that you start your climb from the left hand side of the hill. After about 50 feet, veer to the right and continue to climb.
The cache that you are looking for is in a plastic container hidden in a crevice in the rocks.
If you climb to the height of the cache, you will be presented with a view of Columbia Lake. Don't forget to visit the Provincial Park from where you will get yet another spectacular view of Columbia Lake. (To our surprise there now seems to be parking fees in this park - so just cruise through and take in the view at the far end of the parking lot!)
