5300' Did this with a 4 and 6 year old. They loved it.
This is not a secret cave, as it is clearly marked on the topo map. You can drive to within a half mile with high clearance or within ¾ mile with a pleasure car. The last half mile is divided into two difficulty levels. The first is up hill through a wash and I rate it at a three with a hiking stick. The last quarter mile I rate as a 1.5 on the level. I would recommend using a topo map and believing in it. Keep a sharp eye. There is one gate to go through by the North road or two gates by the South road access just before you make a turn. Drive to the end of the 2 track road and hike the wash. The cave is large enough to stand up in, maybe about 15’ high. The cache is not hidden in the cave, however when you find the cave, you found the cache, a 50cal. Ammo can. Also, there is a BLM log inside the cave for you to sign. Make your return by walking North from the cave to the rim and then follow the rim East. The view is great.
Here is a tip: Make this trip in the early morning and you can hike the hill in the shade!
