Geocache Description:

This cache will give you a view of the rocks as well as the valley instead of just a view from the rocks of the valley.

If you just did 'Lakeview from 1700' this one shouldn't take you but another 10 or 15 minutes to tackle. If you already did 'Lakeview from 1700' on another trip, come back! Come back!

This is a library cache. Meaning, if you trade, trade books only! But trade only paperbacks; no hardbound books to this cache. It just simply won't be able to accomodate them. Please leave nothing else behind (no toys, trinkets, miscellaneous items; this is a book-only cache). The original cache contents were:

  • Logbook with pens and a mech. pencil
  • First To Find prize: 2 sets of Hubble Space Telescope slides (one primarily of galaxies, one from the 2002 Servicing Mission)
  • National Audubon Society's "Pocket Guide to Constellations"
  • "Touching The Void" by Joe Simpson
  • "Sixteen Minutes From Home" by Mark Cantrell and Donald Vaughan (about the Columbia tragedy)
  • "The Princess Bride" by William Goldman
  • "Dragons of Autumn Twilight" by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
  • "War World, Vol 1: The Burning Eye" created by Jerry Pournelle
  • "Beverages" from Food Writer's Favorites; non-alcoholic drink recipes
  • "Backcountry First Aid and Extended Care, 3rd ed" by Buck Tilton
Note: most of these books are on the thin side, so keep this in mind when you are bringing a book to trade. The three fiction novels are the largest books in the cache. The cache is a large ammo box, but it is already pretty full. Also, when trading out books, unless you have yours sealed in a strong ziplock bag, please leave the ziplocks with the books for moisture control (and make sure you seal 'em up when you leave ;-).

From the main overlook at Annapolis Rocks look off to the right and locate the scree field near the ridge line. You'll need to bushwhack over to it, but the going isn't that bad (not a lot of undergrowth). I'd suggest contouring higher rather than going lower, though. It'll be that much easier. If you can't navigate inertialy, take appropriate compass/GPSr bearings/readings. Once you are in the scree field your GPSr should pick up satellites fairly quickly (I had a 7' accuracy reading when I placed the cache; best I've ever had).

Once you're over here, enjoy the solitude you would not otherwise get at Annapolis Rocks on a typical weekend. If there are climbers present (at the rocks), you'll hear them fairly clearly from here.

Enjoy the reading!
