The Syracuse Inner Harbor is a $36 million “new urbanism” redevelopment project that surrounds the outlet of Onondaga Creek where it enters Onondaga Lake. It has paved walking trails, an amphitheatre and other amenities. At one time it was a maintenance harbor for the Erie (Barge) Canal. Events are held at the Inner Harbor periodically, but it’s largely underused as the area awaits further development. For now it’s a nice place to walk around and imagine the area’s potential.
This micro cache is a magnetic key holder. The log is small - just enough room for your name and the date found. There's no room in the cache for a pen or pencil, so you'll have to bring your own writing instrument.
We replaced this cache five times in 14 months, mostly due to vandalism. On 18 August 2004 we relocated it to a more secure location within the Inner Harbor (new coordinates shown above). On 3 September 2004, we replaced it again because a geocacher who found it left it exposed to the weather (and muggles) and the log got wet! Sigh. Replaced again on 11 November 2009. Please be discrete when removing or replacing the cache to avoid drawing the attention of onlookers, replace it exactly where you found it (so that it's protected from the weather), and make sure it's solidly reattached. Thank you!
