When I moved to Western Iowa several months ago from Central Iowa,
I discovered I knew little about the beauty and history of the
area. So, I decided to set up a series of caches for travelers, and
Iowans, that will take them to some of these beautiful places in
Western Iowa. This is my third cache. It is in the small Danish
village of Kimballton. Enjoy the beautiful views of rolling hills
and fertile cropland. Kimballton is named for a local druggist and
there are lots of things to see in the Kimballton area. You will
find one of them near the site of the cache. (Hint: This is a
beautiful, historic, literary, reproduction of a Scandinavian
symbol with a connection to Tom Hanks, Walt Disney, and Charlie. It
is here during the summer but in a window downtown during the
winter.) Spend a few minutes and enjoy the Danish ethnic heritage
that still lingers in the community. Several buildings are on the
National Register of Historic Places. Enjoy the National Register
Historic District, Mural of History on Main Street, antique shops
and charm of this Danish village. Visit the historic Danish Village
Church and Dania Garden on Main Street. Kimballton is also one of
the proud Danish Villages which feature the Danish Immigrant Museum
and the imported Danish Windmill in Elk Horn. (BTW, check out the
cache in Elk Horn, too!) This is a theme cache celebrating Danish
heritage. Original contents: Danish/American flag patch, Denmark
ruler,Danish/American flag pin, Danish Power magnet, Danes have
more fun magnet, Danish Windmill keychain, and a Danish troll.
Don’t worry if you don’t have anything Danish to trade.
Just take what you want and leave what you have. But, please try to
keep the quality of items in the cache high. This is an easy walk
(about 50 feet) on concrete sidewalk and should only take a few
minutes to find.Thanks! Happy Caching!
