The above coordinates are a safe parking area where a memorial is located. This little known Memorial is in memory of all the people who died on this stretch of HWY 30. This Memorial was placed away from the Hwy due to the concern for the safety of the people stopping to read it.
This section of Hwy 30 from Longview WA to Astoria OR has claimed many lives over the years.
From 1990 to 2001: 33 lives were lost due to accidents.
In 2000, there were 89 reported accidents.
In 2001, there were 186 accidents.
This shows the rate of accidents and fatalities for Hwy 30 are increasing.
According to reports most accidents occur on FRIDAY afternoon between 2:00pm - 7:00pm. Usually due to DROWSY drivers.
SO PLEASE BE EXTRA CAREFUL TRAVELING THIS STRETCH OF HWY.
