Crandell Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

SCUBACache: As per the request of the Park Warden in Waterton Lakes National Park (See below), this cache is no longer available. My only goal in placing the cache was to give fellow GeoCachers a taste of what I consider to be one of the best National Parks in Canada. Sorry for any inconveniences.

Dear SCUBACache:

Greetings from the Park Warden office in Waterton Lakes National Park, site of your goecache. Pleae be informed that in keeping with Parks Canada Agency policy, in that 'geocaching' is not an appropriate activity in a National Park, I found and removed the cache to the warden office today.

Some reasons for geocaching not being appropriate in a National Park:
- damaged to areas caused by people searching for caches. eg. At this time of year, your cache is next ot a gorgeous glacier lily meadow, which could be much damaged by folks seeking the cache.
- development of new trails
- and simply, it is not an activity that directly values and promotes an understanding of National Parks

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I think what I may do is re-cache the item outside the park in an area (nearby forest reserve) for example that allows such activities.

Or, if you plan to be in the area you could retrieve your cache.

Thanks,

Keith McDougall

Geocache Description:

Located at Crandell Lake, this is short hike to a very scenic site.

Close to Crandell Lake, this cache is fairly easy to get to, as there are two trail heads you can leave from to get you there and both are less than 2km long. One trailhead is located along the Cameron Lake Road (Akamina Parkway), park at N49.05.954 W113.57.639. The other is from the Crandell Campground (just off of Red Roack Parkway), park at N49.04.608 W113.58.455. The elevation gain is about 100m both ways.

This traditional cache is a well sealed brown ammo box with the Green Geocaching Sticker located on its side. It started off containing all new items described below:
- Wallet
- Whistle
- 3 Storage bags
- 2 Large deck of playing cards
- Memo pad
- Key chain
- Mini light
- Rain poncho

Please upload your pictures from the trip, if you have one to share.

*** Since this is bear and cougar country, please do not leave any food or odorous items in the cache. ***

*** During the winter this site could be hard to find as it may be under a large snow drift. ***
