Not far off the Venable trail at about timberline in the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness, but it's a 3.6-mile trek and a 2400-ft elevation gain from the trailhead in the Alvarado Campground.
This is a traditional cache that I placed with the help of my son and grandson (who was on his first significant backpacking trip). It's a small cake-sized plastic container with a few trinkets (a couple of key chains, small space shuttle, small ET doll, etc.). I took several coordinate readings over two days and used the set that gave me the most satellites. The area is in a spectacular setting along my most favorite loop trail.
July 05 note: Notified it's been disturbed by animals in a major way. I'll get up there in the next few weeks to "fix" it up in a more animal-proof container.
