Geocache Description:

This little trip will bring you into a great little piece of Washington’s sub-alpine. Into the region of the Black Bear and the Marmot, the Pika and the Gray Jay.

This is a tough and steep hike. The hike is only around 2 miles one-way to the cache but also has an elevation gain of 2,000 feet. It’s not for the faint of heart but is an outstanding area and well worth the effort. But first, a couple of words of warning: 1)The entire route can be done on trail. These trails are not maintained and are not shown on maps. They are backcountry way trails. Sometime they are easy to follow and sometime not. Only experienced hikers knowledgeable in back-country travel and wilderness navigation should take this route. STAY ON THE TRAIL. Some locations are marked with cairns, be aware of these and use them to your advantage. This is very steep and rugged terrain. Deviating from the trails or trying to find short cuts could result in a bad day out! 2)During the winter and through late spring the Cache will be buried deep in snow. This entire area should be considered high avalanche hazard during any snow conditions. DO NOT TRAVEL IN THE BACK-COUNTRY DURING THE WINTER. With that said, by all means go and enjoy. Go prepared and remember your 10 essentials. Bring a copy of the USGS 7 ½ minute Snoqualmie Pass map (you will need this map to solve for Way Point #5) and a compass and know how to use them together. This route brings you up and around the backside of the unnamed hump that lies in the major saddle between Snoqualmie Mt. and Guye Peak. There are SIX waypoints that describe the route. The route is as follows: Way Point #1 – Alpental Parking Lot. N 47° 26.684’ x W 121° 25.436’ --> Cross the road to the unmarked trailhead, Way Point #2 Way Point #2 – Beginning of the trail. This is the unmarked trail across the road from the parking lot and is just south of the main Snow Lake trailhead. N 47° 26.715’x W 121° 25.409’ --> Follow this trail up the hill to Way Point #3 Way Point #3 – Trail sign posted in tree, Snoqualmie Mt. to the left and Guye Peak to the right. N 47° 26.892’ x W 121° 24.966 --> Follow the trail to Way Point #4, towards Guye Peak. Way Point #4 – Trail Crossing in the Guye Peak saddle. N 47° 26.804’ x W 121° 24.660’ --> Solve for Way Point #5 and proceed. Way Point #5 – Cave Entrance on Cave Ridge Solve the following for Way Point #5: N __° __.___’ = 4721894 + the elevation shown on your map for Guye Peak. W ___° __.___’ = 12118361 + the elevation shown on your map for Snoqualmie Mt. --> Solve for Way Point #6 and proceed to the CACHE. Way Point #6 – The CACHE At Way Point #5, what geological feature did you find? Something a spelunker might find interesting? _ _ _ _ By using the simple decoder A=1 B=2…Z=26 convert the four letter word to a single five digit number _ _ _ _ _. N __° __.___ = 4695931 + your decoded answer. W ___° __.___ = 12093146 + your decoded answer. The CACHE is an orange “PlayTime” Nalgene water bottle on/in this rocky outcropping --> Find the CACHE, sit, eat, drink, and be merry. Life is Good. --> Return via the way you came. Life is Good, Igor-Buzz
