Geocache Description:

Historic California Hot Springs, located at approx 3500' elevation.

California Hot Springs was founded in 1882 & developed as a health resort that centered around the town's naturally pure hot springs water. 350,000 gallons of 125 degree water flow from the area's rock cliffs each day.

Previously used by the native Yokuts, it was then used by gold miners and ranchers. The resort was started in 1882 by Henry Witt and eventually included a hotel and swimming pool. Fire destroyed the hotel in 1932 and the commercial center in 1968.

The resort was restored and reopened in 1985. There now includes a deli-style restaurant, ice cream parlor, gift shop, and swimming pool. RV Park nearby. It is right inside the boundary of the Giant Sequoia National Monument.

There is no need to trespass or to open any cabinets or doors. At times, the area can contain lots of vistors, so be discreet when retrieving and rehiding cache.
