Geocache Description:

In the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains near Old Stage Road at Fountain Springs. This is one of 3 routes into the Giant Sequoia National Monument.

At a point just north of here, the Butterfield Overland Stage crossed through this area of Central California on the main route from San Francisco to Los Angeles and the rest of Southern California.

The terrain of rolling hills on the western side of the Sierra Nevada mountains provides a fantastic surrounding for this cache. There are 2 granite and concrete historical monuments that mark this site.

This route was frequented by several folks famous to the history and settlement of the Old West, including Kit Carson & Joseph Walker.

E-mail your answers to these questions to verify your find, then log it.

1) Of the 2 monuments, what is the name at the top of the left one?

2) Who did Kit Carson guide through this area in 1844?

3) What years did the Butterfield Overland Stage run through this area?
