Cool Cow Cachers: It is time to retire the Green Box. Several factors contributed to this decision, the first being our philosophy about adopting caches has changed since we adopted this cache last summer.
Second, a regular size cache, in a public park, in the middle of two Blackout Challenges should see more than four finds in seven months.
Third, the hiding location is now gone! When we replaced the missing cache, we found a spot under a fallen log behind two other trees, "where the triplets are now twins." Sometime during the winter, the twins fell over and were removed leaving only the single log and the root balls of the fallen trees. This left the cache location completely exposed to the trail and led to the final, and most important failing.
When I learned of the change of environment, I headed up to check on the cache. To my horror, it was still tucked neatly away where it belonged but it was covered by a pile of sticks and bark. Know this about a Cool Cow Cache, it will never be hidden under a pile of sticks! A geocache should blend in naturally with it's surroundings and there is nothing natural about a pile of sticks in the forest.
All of these factors combined made the decision to archive the cache quite simple.
