Geocache Description:

CAUTION; BEAR AND MOOSE HAVE BEEN SEEN NEAR THE CACHE SITE. BE ALERT, LET THEM HEAR YOU COMING AND THEY WILL LEAVE. This is my 4th night-time cache. FLASHLIGHT REQUIRED. Shine your flashlight into the woods to locate the 1/4" reflective tack on a tree that can be seen from the above coordinates. Follow the trail of tacks until you come to a tree with two of them in it. Within 30' of this tree is the cache containing a log book, trade items and a sample of red berries (plastic of course) Sign log and return by following the reflective tacks out. Please no spoilers when logging visit. Feel free to send an e-mail with the details of your find. The following is based on an article in the Huntingtonville Recorder, July 1897 from the private library of Samuel Harrister, local historian, and longtime Hilltown resident. It is believed to be true. The Ashford Homestead was located on land which is now part of the Littleville resevoir watershed. Morgan and Laura, along with their teenage son Preston, made a meager living selling chickens, eggs and produce from their small farm here. Preston was an adventurous boy who loved to play in the surrounding woods. His folks would always tell him not to eat the red berries that grew on the bushes in the area for they have been known to make people sick. One day Preston found himself in the woods by the river and very hungry. Figuring the red berries couldn't be all that different from the blue-berries he loved, he ate his fill. As he returned to the farm, he became violently ill and died before he could make it into the house. At least he was thought to be dead by his folks who found him face down in the yard. The red berries put him into a death-like state, lowering is heart-rate so much so that it was undetectable. (I've seen the effects of these berries as a friend of mine, mistaking them for the edible partridge berries, ate 6 of them and had to be helped out of the woods). That evening Preston was placed into a grave to be buried. As the dirt began to fall onto his coffin, he came out of his death-state and began screaming. Those attending the service thought demons had taken over Prestons body so preacher quickly ordered the grave be backfilled with dirt, burying Preston alive. Silencing him. Family members would never speak of the incident. There are those that say, on certain nights when the winds are calm, you can hear Preston screaming....screaming for his life. DON'T EAT THE RED BERRIES !!!!
