Kirwin is an abandoned mining town from the late 1880's. There are several wilderness trails located here with an outhouse and a parking area. This is Grizzly bear country. Moose, elk, deer and big horn sheep are common sites. The view is worth the trip alone. Getting there requires a high clearance vehicle since the road gets rocky and there are many creek crossings. Snowfall and water runoff may make this a summer and early fall cache only.
Kirwin is located about 34 miles out of Meeteetse. Head west out of Meeteese for 6.5 miles. Turn south on Wood River Road (Park County 4DT). At about 18.5 miles in this road gets rough. Follow it another 9 miles to Kirwin.
