A fairly easy walk, a bit of uphill walking, with spectacular views
Crackpot Hall was a substantial 17th Century farmhouse, but it was abandoned in the 1950's due to mining subsidence, and is now ruinous. Not many houses could have had such a view as this looking down to the River Swale in its steep-sided valley.
The approach from Keld goes high above a wooded limestone gorge, and there are several waterfalls near the path. The whole area between Keld and Muker is delightful, especially the meadows full of wild flowers.
If you have time, follow the track past the Hall into Swinnergill, and explore the old lead mine buildings.
