Caterpillar Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Rattlingcrew: Not sure what happened here, I contacted the property owner and he is not sure what happened either. He thinks the other half might be slipping a little. He said the next guy shouldn’t have any problem. A life long and dear friend, I will solve the issue by archiving the cache.

Geocache Description:

Easy all the way!

The Caterpillar Cache is located on private property owned by Rex Russell of Mentor, Kansas. Rex is a long time friend and at one time I worked for him. He was a great influence in my life; I always enjoyed time spent with him and his family. I named my first son after Rex. The coordinates will take you to a driveway, the drive exits south off of Mentor Road. I have logged a photo of the driveway. The driveway curves to the east and just south of this curve you will find a row of antique graders. These are old pull graders that rely on an outside power, frequently, Caterpillar crawlers were used. In this row of graders, you will find a Galion, a Caterpillar, a Russell, and an Adams. You will find a wide variety of Caterpillar tractors here, some date back to the early to mid 1920s. Use these coordinates N 38 44.325 W 97 35.934 to locate the cache. You will find it out in plain sight, vision is only obscured by the tractor nearby. You will not have to move anything, open any boxes etc to find the cache, just keep your eyes open! About the only hazard here is the wasps that like the machines. The original container is a flat gray and green ammo box filled with construction toys, two dump trucks, two pickups, a crane, a back hoe and other toys. The usual pen, pencil, cache sheet and log book. Have fun and enjoy. If you have a young operator with you, I am sure Rex would not mind them trying their skills out on the big machines. If you have trouble understanding the directions or have other questions mailto:91W350@gmail.com Rex has hauled his antique machinery all over the Midwest, many times being the only exhibitors with crawler tractors. My favorite was always the SIXTY, a huge slow, low rpm machine that was the master of power and pull for years. Hopefully you will catch somebody around or the museum buildings will be open, the car collection is worth visiting!
