Geocache Description:


This cache is located on the grounds of the SOUTH bound I-75 Rest Area and Travelers Information Center just one mile south of Exit 179 for US-6 "Grand Army of the Republic Highway". Note the next exit is 7 miles south at Cygnet, Exit 171.

This cache gives those traveling south bound on I-75 an excuse to stop, stretch the legs and log a cache all at the same time. There is abundant parking for cars and larger vehicles, as well as snacks, beverages, restrooms, phones, plus an information center with very nice employees. Snag some brochures from the information center, wander around a bit, stretch out at a picnic table and enjoy the moment, despite the traffic noise.

Oh...and when in season, leave a pint of blood with the skeeters, then enjoy the rest of your trip!

 

· A sister cache called "Respite Sojourn", at the northbound I-75 rest stop was archived in '06.
· Thankfully in '09 a new cache called "Northbound I-75 Rest Area" was placed there.

  CACHE HISTORY: After the first cache went MIA, Team Soaring placed a second cache at a new location. After we adopted the cache from them, we found that this location was regularly water logged from flooding. On 03/04/07, Ladybuggers! graciously placed the cache in a plastic bag which helped for a while. On 08/28/07, we replaced the cache container and relocated it to a third location which should at least be flood proof for the cache container! On 01/07/08, yet another location was chose to keep this cache alive and well. With this latest location, the difficulty was raised to 1.5 on 08/11/08, as recommended by other cachers. After some additional thought and suggestions, the difficulty level was raised to 2.5 on 12/28/08.
