Geocache Description:

ONE IN A SERIES OF LIGHTHOUSE CACHES.
For a comprehensive history of this and all LHs in NB pick up a copy of the book
'Lighthouses of New Brunswick: Past & Present'.

Follow the signs from Rte 915 to Cape Enrage, located on the magnificent Fundy Coast over looking Chignecto Bay. The lighthouse here, established in 1848, is one of 68 authentic towers remaining in the province. Despite its rather ominous name, the Cape Enrage light is a small saltshaker style lighthouse, only 30 ft. in height, perched atop 100 ft high cliffs overlooking the churning waters below that give the Cape its name.

It is these cliffs and the surrounding terrain that have helped to bring new life to the lightstation in what is one of province’s best examples of alternative use for a lighthouse. The project began in 1992 with the restoration of the 1952 keepers dwelling (now the lunchroom). One need only look at the before and after pictures of this building to get an idea of the success and scope of this project. Their website has some great info on the history of the station as well as general info on the project (visit link)

The first cache at Cape Enrage was placed on August 13, 2003 and enjoyed many visitors over the next 5 years. However the original location came into conflict with the expanding project so in June of 2008 the location was changed with the approval of the site manager.

Drive to the top of the hill and the entrance to the lightstation. In the off season when the gate is closed park here, if the gate is open drive down to the first parking area (there is a $5.00 per person admission charge) and hike backup the hill. DO NOT park on the side of the road going up (it will be a much more difficult hike no matter what your gps says). From the summit of the road, head up the hill, you will come upon a walking trail just past the antennas. Follow this trail to the cache, DO NOT try to bushwhack across. You will not have to leave the trail to retrieve the cache. Container is a plastic container with a camo'd lid.

2015: The area of the cache has changed dramatically since it was placed there in 2008. Trees have grown up and there is now a nice walking trail where before there was nothing. The cache has been re-hidden back where it was placed in 2008.

THIS CACHE IS NOT WINTER FRIENDLY!!! PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE IT IF FROZEN!

AS ALWAYS, PLEASE LEAVE CACHE AS WELL OR BETTER HIDDEN THAN YOU FOUND IT
