Geocache Description:

A maze of paths good for dog-walking, mountain-biking and horse-riding surround the cache. Can get muddy in winter over the bridle paths.

The Roosthole

Mind out for the dragon…

This cache is set in an area of St. Leonard’s Forest maintained by the Forestry Commision. It is an area very popular with walkers, encumbered or not, horseriders and there are great mountain-biking opportunties. The woods can be enjoyed with or without GPS, as the cache isn’t hard to find with a map. If you plan well, you can travel a nice circuit route. If you don’t plan, then you’ll still see beautiful wildflowers and forest creatures.

The area is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the forest contains part of the High Weald Landscape trial (www.highweald.org).
St. Leonard’s Forest used to be part of a massive woodland stretching from the North Downs to the coast. The Normans used to hunt here, and there were tales of a dragon in the forest, “Nine feet or more with a red underbelly”.

It is a generously sized ammunitions box (clearly labelled) with a logbook, pen, bag for calling cards, and the usual assortment of goodies.

This is the first cache we have set, and hope you enjoy it. Any problems or remarks, let us know.
