This is the beginning of the Gainesville Haunted Historical Tour. During this challenge, you will come across many of the people that have been a part of the history of Alachua County and the surrounding area. This cemetery is one of the oldest and largest in the area. Please respect those that are laid to rest here and their surviving families. This cemetery is not locked but be advised that it may not be healthy at night for a variety of reasons not excluding some of the current occupants may take umbrage at being disturbed while they are out and about!
Some of the previous sites took you to places named after historical figures in Gainesville. Now you get to meet them! For this one, you will need to start at coordinates as posted. Look for a historical placard that describes the life of Jesse Johnson Finley. Use the following algorithm to decrypt the coordinates of this cache: For North coordinates, A=1, B=2,…Z=26. Go to these coordinates and read the name on the tombstone. The person interred here is featured in which of the ten G’ville Historical Tours? From this grave, go on a heading of 355 degrees for about 200 feet to the memorial of a young woman named Maude. You will find the cache to the left and front of her. There is a small log but bring your own pen or pencil.
