Foxham Lock Traditional Cache
Lactodorum: Hi, this looks like the cache needs some TLC. Could the owner please undertake a maintenance visit to check it out and replace any damaged items. In the meantime I'm archiving it but I'll happily unarchive it if/when it's sorted assuming it still meets the guidelines.
Thanks, Lactodorum

The cache is situated near Foxham, an attractive village about 3 miles from Chippenham. It is suitable for Children and buggies but it is near a deep water lock, though this has been made fairly safe with a mesh cover. The difficulty of this cache is reduced to a 1 with the clue.
Foxham Lock is part of the Wilts & Berks Canal, which included the North Wilts Canal, linked the Thames & Severn Canal at Cricklade to the North, to the River Thames at Abingdon in the East, and Semington on the Kennet and Avon Canal in the South West.
The working life of the Wilts & Berks Canal was about 100 years, coming to an end when it was abandoned officially in 1914 by an Act of Parliament. Since then, the canal has been returned to riparian owners, filled-in, slowly deleted from maps and allowed to fade from memory. That is until 25 years ago, when the Wilts & Berks Amenity Group was formed to preserve what remained of this, largely rural, canal system.
The footpath to the lock is signed off the road 0.3 miles from the pub. Please be aware that the "Danger keep out" sign refers to the deep water lock itself, the path is a public right of way.
If you fancy a drink The Foxham Inn is open every day except Monday.
Parking is on the verge of the road leading to the footpath at N51°29.665', W002°01.686' or by the pub at
N51°29.659', W002°02.156'
The cache is an ammo box and is well hidden. It has been moved slightly from its initial location (and the co-ordinates and clue updated) because finding it involved scrambling about in hawthorn bushes. Now you should not have to go near any bushes to find the cache.
Good luck!
