Bodega Dunes Challenge Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Daffodil: We have removed the cache from the Bodega Dunes site. We did not find a Travel Bug in the cache. The cache has been at the dunes for six years and we feel the land needs a rest. Thank you to all the cachers who have found and enjoyed our cache location!

Geocache Description:

This cache is an opportunity for you to explore Bodega Dunes, a broad expanse of sand, covered by many species of native and imported plants. You might also see jackrabbits, mice, raccoons, and on rare occasions, a fox. Bring a picnic lunch and a blanket and enjoy a great secluded view of the coast. Just remember this is Northern California, so be prepared for cold, windy weather any time of year. You can start from either of two trailheads. The first is the day-use parking lot at Bodega Dunes Campground. You'll need to pay a $4.00 admission fee, and the trail is fairly level most of the way. The second starts at the free dirt parking lot for horse trailers off East Shore Road. It's about the same distance but you'll have a bit of a climb as you cross a dune ridge. Either way you should be able to stay on designated trails until the very end. The cache is a green ammo-type box, well-hidden a few hundred feet off Jack Rabbit Trail. You should be able to follow a faint trail pretty much to the end. Please practice low-impact hiking and stay off the ice plant. By following trails, the one-way distance is about .7 miles either way, but walking on the soft sand makes it seem longer.

Contents are in ziploc bags to keep out moisture. Please put any items you leave in a bag and seal it. Each bag contains multiple items. We've had problems in the past with water getting into the cache box and hope this new system will make it much more pleasant to open!

The contents have changed over time but the cache always contains:
