Geocache Description:

In 1976 the Angle Tree Stone was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

We felt the Angle Tree Stone was of such historical significance, we would share it with you all. There is off road parking down the dirt lane. Please go and visit, it is well worth the trip.

In 1640 a dispute occurred between the Massachusetts and Plymouth colonies regarding the boundary line, and commissioners were appointed who undertook to run a correct line between them. But when they were about three miles from their destination they found the line would end south of where it should. Instead of rectifying their error, they made an angle to a large oak tree known afterward as the Angle Tree. In 1790 the tree was supplanted by a stone with a suitable inscription, which is known as the Angle Stone.

In October 2007, this cache was adopted by Shedew from Geo50chevy. We are thrilled to take over the stewardship of this cache at such a historic location. The cache is as it was originally written with the exception the location has been changed slightly to what we hope is more secure. In addition the ratings have been upgraded to reflect the new location and that it is NOT handicap accessible. No additional hints are provided at this time.
