Geocache Description:

Sublette, New Mexico consists of a few small abandoned buildings on the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad (C&TSRR).

Sublette, New Mexico consists of a few small abandoned buildings on the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad (C&TSRR). They have been restored to the condition they were left in when the railroad was abandoned. Built in the 1880s, this portion of the Chili Line goes from Antonito, Colorado to Chama, New Mexico. Sublette was a section house on that line. The C&TSRR stops here on its daily run for water from the cistern. A ride on the C&TSRR is a ride back in to history.

The cache is a short walk from the railroad’s historical structures onto BLM land. To get to Sublette, turn off Highway 17 onto Road D.5 at mileage marker 29 and cross the Conejos River. Follow the signs to “Osier Park” on forest road 103 about six miles. Turn onto Forest Road 103B at coordinates: N 36o 59.510’ , W 106o 13.546’ and travel until the road starts to drop down the side of the hill. This is where you will want to park and walk if you are in your 2WD car. It’s only about a hundred yards down the hill to the end of the road in Sublette which is at: N36o 59.339’ , W 106o 13.788’.

We have placed another cache at the C&TSRR station house in Osier, Colorado.
