A beautiful walk down this rocky dale will take you to the source of the River Lathkill.
* 8.6.11 We understand the tupperware box is split. Unfortunately a kneecap dislocation is going to stop us getting to the cache to fix it for the immediate future. If anyone planning to find the cache is able to bring an old ice-cream container or similar to transfer the contents into we'd be really grateful. Otherwise we'll aim to fix it ourselves once mobile again. Thank you!*
We suggest that you park your car at N 53.11.702 W 001.45.950 in the layby. There are toilets opposite. Follow the well marked footpath down Lathkill Dale watching out for over friendy heifers! The terrain is rocky and uneven but very beautiful.
After a couple of kilometers you will come to a cavern blocked by big stones. This is the source of the River Lathkill. If you go after a dry spell in summer it will be dry but in a wet winter the water comes pouring out of here. It is quite amazing to see it appearing from nowhere.
We thought about hiding this cache very near the source but in deference to those of you who would prefer to go home alive in winter we have actually hidden it diagonally opposite.
The cache is a smallish round tupperware container with a green lid. It contains the usual bits and pieces. However, we forget to buy a small notebook on the way (the log book is currently a pad of post it notes) so could one of you kind people please bring one with you?! Thanks.

(NB We used the Geocache advice system to work out the terrain difficulty - it said 4 but we agree that this is too high so have changed it to 2.5)
