This mountain is climbable - just approach from the back side.
This mountain can be climbed only between July 16 and January 31.
Whew, what a climb! Casa Grande, a 7,235 ft. mountain in the heart of Big Bend National Park, is approachable only from the 'back' side from the Juniper Flats area. It's only about .6 linear miles but you gain over 1,400 vertical feet in that span. Don't even think about a technical climb up the face. The rock is not stable. Head up the rock slide between the great monoliths on the SW side for 2 to 3 hours and you're there. Let me know what you find at the top to record your visit on the site. Congratulations to all of you who make it. With no trails, this is not easy.
I added an element of challenge to my trip by doing it at 5am with only the moonlight, which worked quite well since it's a lot cooler then.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Climbing Casa Grande is prohibited between February 1st and July 15th during the Peregrine Falcon breeding season. Don't disturb these beautiful birds!
