Nuts to You!! Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

chaosmanor: All good things must end eventually, and it's time for this cache to join the ranks of "Good, but past their prime." Sandra, the nutlady, delivered a big load of walnuts to the Somis Nut House today, and she brought along a marvelous new cache, which we will baby-sit for her. Thanks to everyone who found this cache and had fun with it [:)]

Geocache Description:

Solve the simple puzzle to find a "squirrelly" cache, the first one in Somis :-)

This is one of our oldest caches, and it has about run its course. A cacher from the Central Valley does business with the owners of the establishment here, and she has expressed interest in putting a new cache here, one which we would monitor for her. Thus, if you've been putting this one off for "later", well, later is now!! We expect to pull this in mid/late October, so you have about a month to get it.

This cache is on the site of one of the oldest continuously-operating commercial establishments in Ventura County. When we were kids, we both visited here on family vacations. When we moved to Camarillo, we were thrilled to find the place still in operation, and we visit several times a year. We also do a fair amount of Christmas shopping here. BTW: the given co-ordinates are not where this business is (as if you hadn't already guessed that ).

The file (below) contains a simple puzzle. Click on the link to see it. If you have trouble reading it when it opens, click on "view", then "toolbars", then "standard", then expand the "zoom" (lower right box) to 100%. Or you can just print it out. Answer the six questions by filling in the boxes, one letter to a box. The number of boxes per question is the number of letters in the answer. All of the questions are about food items that can be found for sale at the business, but you should be able to answer them all at your own computer screen. Once you have all six answers, you must do the following...

  1. Convert the six letters in the shaded column to numbers, using this simple formula: a=1, b=2, c=3, etc.
  2. Reading down, put each number into the blanks, below. For ease of placement, the top three numbers in the puzzle are "north" and the bottom three are "west".

Final Co-ordinates:

      N  34º 15.__ __ __       W  119º 00.__ __ __

Once you have the done the above, you'll have the final co-ordinates for the cache. It's a round metal container painted with an appropriate theme. And the "hint" isn't a whole lot of help, at least as far as the cache is concerned

We need to mention some things about this cache. This is not a commercial cache! There is nothing in the cache that advertises the business. We do not work there, nor do we know the owners all that well, except as customers. However, we do have permission from them to place this cache on their property. In fact, they were very happy to give us permission. Naturally, they hope any seekers will stop in during business hours [basically, 8 AM to 5:30 PM, seven days a week], and if you do, feel free to mention that you are a geocacher. But this is not required, of course.

Have fun! In fact, "go nuts"! >
