Robert Carleton Downs (1828- 1901) A partner of Levi Hanford., part owner and superintendent of the Lincoln Quartz Mine of which Leland Stanford was also a part owner. Also owned the Golden Eagle Mine near Sutter Creek. Member of the State Assembly (1879-1880), is in the city Cemetery. Also while here visit the Catholic Cemetery where Joseph Lubanski (1906- 1993) is. He was an Americam Polish soldier for freedom and independence of Poland. He fought with the Polish Commando Company 1942-1945. Came to the US in 1952, he continued to fight for Poland using his typewriter as a weapon. He recieved the Polish Cross.
